Sir:-

Your despatch of August 4th in respect to the

rules of the Mexican Immigration officers, as per

the Diario Oficial of June 23rd: I have the honour

to report that all passengers arriving here on steam-

ers (from China excepted) are subjected to the ques-

tioning as set out in the above mentioned Diario Of-

icial. The Jefe de Sanidad here showed me a heap

of such forms filled out, the original by the passen-

ger him, or herself, and the duplicate by the Doctor

or his assistant. I noticed many stating national-

ity "Mexicano", so from that, I reason, that no pas-

senger of the second class escapes.

The Doctor told me that they had other special

forms for the Asiatic immigrants, but I did not see

them.
